Downtown Bari (“Borgo Murattiano”)

Started in the early 1800, Borgo Murat was built with a “grid” type layout which will remind you of a “downtown” of many American cities.
The neighborhood is famous for its excellent shopping district where you’ll find all of the most renowned brands as well as some very carefully curated clothing boutiques. Restaurants and sophisticated cafes are plentiful there.

Downtown is located at walking distance from Old Bari (“Bari Vecchia”), the location where, overlooking the sea, the first settlements of Bari were born. As you walk through Bari Vecchia today you’ll be amazed by an intricated puzzle of tiny streets, medieval style buildings and monuments at every corner. Two world-famous churches (the Basilica of St. Nicholas and the Cattedrale) are also located in Bari Vecchia, as well as the Castello Svevo Normanno.
